The work of CPC members Jane Falkingham, Maria Evandrou, Saara Hämäläinen, Maja Palmer and Athina Vlachantoni was included in a recent report "Demographic Change and Migration", published as part of the Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) "More Years, Better Lives". Their contributions were included in chapters on "Migrants in the health and social care workforce"; "Migrants in the pension system"; and in the UK’s country report.
Designed as a fast-track project, research was undertaken from March to October 2017. An interdisciplinary group of researchers from Europe and Canada collected and analysed recent research evidence in four main topics and eleven countries. The objective was to bring together current knowledge and help define the scope of any further work by the JPI "More Years, Better Lives". This final project report presents the researchers’ findings.
The list of research gaps and opportunities for joint actions that came out as a result of this work include opportunities for joint funding, for mutual scientific learning and exchange, for outreach measures, and as groundwork for future demographic research and other activities conducive to the integration of research, policy and practice.
