Promoting Social Mobility and Equal Opportunities in Europe

These were some of the questions driving presentations during a meeting organized by Population Europe, the European Consortium for Sociological Research, and the European Parliament Research Service on the 11th of November 2019.

Freedom of Choice – The Foundation of Family Policies in Europe?

Within the framework of the H2020 Project Generations and Gender Programme – Evaluate, Plan, Initiate (GGP-EPI), two policy dialogue events were held at the German House in London on the 4th of November 2019. The first was an Expert Meeting with 22 participants from academia, policy and civil society organisations. Following that event, a public panel discussion was held in the evening on the topic: Freedom of Choice – The Foundation of Family Policies in Europe? Both discussions focused on the comparison between Germany and the UK.

Berliner "Schlossgespräch": Population Diversity as a Trend for the Future

On Monday, 21 January 2019, partners and colaborators of Population Europe met in Berlin to discuss population diversity as a trend for the future. The so called "Schlossgespräch" took part in the ESMT Berlin. The meeting was moderated by Andreas Edel, Executive Secretary Population Europe, and featured welcome speeches by Günter Stock, Chairman of the Einstein Foundation Berlin, and Sabine Kunst, President of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

New Social Vulnerabilities in the Baltic Sea Region

On November 14, 2017, experts from the realms of research, policy, and civil society met in the Nordic Embassies in Berlin to discuss the topic of "New social vulnerabilities in the Baltic Sea Region." The event – which was kindly hosted the Embassy of Sweden – was organized by the Max Planck Institute of Demographic Research in Rostock, the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Policy in Munich, and Population Europe; in cooperation with the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).
