They are looking for a motivated research associate (PostDoc) to strengthen their research in the areas of education and early inequalities. The centre of research and policy advice of the research group ‘Education and Human Capital’ focuses on the question of how children can best develop their potential. The position includes participation in the scientific evaluation of the Startchancenprogramm, a comprehensive federal programme to strengthen schools with a high proportion of socially disadvantaged pupils. A key aim of the programme is to strengthen the skills of pupils and thus contribute to more equal opportunities. The BiB is involved in the scientific evaluation as a member of an interdisciplinary consortium consisting of several institutes and organisations.
Your areas of responsibility include
- Conception and implementation of empirical analyses for impact research of policy measures, in particular, the evaluation of the 'Startchancenprogramm'
- Analyses of various national survey data sets and administrative data sources, including
using advanced quantitative analysis methods and quasi-experimental methods - Collaboration on interim reports and the final evaluation report
- Presentation of findings at national and international conferences and publication of research results in international journals

- Exchange and close cooperation with the evaluation partners
What you should bring with you
- A university degree with a Master's degree or an equivalent qualification (e.g. Magister
degree (e.g. Magister, Dipl.-Uni) in economics or social sciences (preferably in
economics, statistics, data science, educational science, sociology) - Doctorate or soon to complete doctorate
- Very good knowledge of and experience with quantitative methods of evaluation research (e.g. difference-in-differences, instrumental variables, event study, and regression discontinuity designs)
- Sound knowledge in the field of economics of education, sociology of education and/or related fields
- Very good knowledge of the German school system and its structures
- Experience in the preparation of complex survey and/or register data and confident handling of statistical programmes such as
statistical programmes such as Stata or R - Experience in writing scientific articles in German and English
- Good written and spoken English skills (at least B2)
- If German is not your native language, knowledge of German (at least A1)
