Deadline

On behalf of the Young Demographers, the Geographical Institute and the Department of Demography and Geodemography of the Faculty of Science, Charles University, we would like to invite you to the (sweet) 16th Conference of Young Demographers.

The conference is planned for three days: 5–7 February 2025, and will take place at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. All participants can present and discuss their current research with colleagues from other countries and fields. Although the conference is mainly focused on (historical) demography, all young (in mind) researchers from various fields of population studies (sociology, epidemiology or maybe even economy) are welcome. The working language of the conference is English.

Prof. Marc Luy will join the event as keynote speaker. Marc is a professor of demography at the University of Vienna and the director of the Vienna Institute of Demography. He focuses mainly on trends and differentials in health and mortality. Our second keynote speaker will be Rolf Granholm from the University of Groningen. His focus is on fertility and family demography.

If you are interested in participating, please submit the title of your work, a short abstract in English (maximum 250 words) and 3–5 keywords via the submission form before Monday, 28 October 2024 (only one submission per first author is allowed). In addition, you can indicate whether you would like to submit your work as a poster or oral presentation.

Please note that the organisers intend to give enough space to those who will opt for posters, and put the same value on both posters and presentations. If you are undecided about the format, they recommend the following: oral presentation for work that is (almost) finished and you primarily want to share its results; poster for work-in-progress that you want to discuss with your colleagues or you are seeking advice for. The poster presentation also includes a 2-3 minute flash presentation (short talk). They would like to dedicate way more space for the poster session than usual; therefore, the number of oral presentations will be limited (you can check out programmes from the past years to get an idea of the ratio).

A part of the conference will also be the famous competition, this time the Rolf Award, so be prepared to decide if you want to join the competition as well.

You will be informed about acceptance by the beginning of December 2024. Unfortunately, financial support for your transport and other expenditures cannot be provided. However, there is no conference fee, only a lunch contribution.
