Nominations and Self-Nominations for the Positions of Director at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy
The Max Planck Society is planning to appoint new Directors to the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Social Law and Social Policy.
The Institute is located in Munich, Germany. The Max Planck Society, an independent association financed by the Federal Republic of Germany and by the Länder, is the most prominent and successful German institution dedicated to foundational research.
Directors are expected to conduct innovative research, either in the field of social policy or of social law, lead a research department at the Institute, and to engage in the ‘Max Planck Hub Fiscal and Social State’, a research partnership with the neighboring MPI for Tax Law and Public Finance. They should have a record of excellent research and successful leadership, the ability to devise a long-term visionary strategy for their research, and the potential to make a substantial contribution to their Institute’s mission. They should be open to collaborations within the Max Planck Society and with other globally leading research organizations.

A nomination should include:
− the candidate’s name and current affiliation;
− a brief motivational statement (200 words max.) specifying the reasons for nomination.
Note that this call is part of the Institute’s scouting procedure; its purpose is to inform the Institute about possible candidates. A formal appointment procedure will follow. As a result of this call, a selection of (self-)nominated candidates may be invited for a hearing by the appointment committee established by the Human Sciences Section of the Max Planck Society. All nominations will be treated in the strictest confidence.
