For the ISA World Congress of Sociology in Gwangju, Korea, they invite abstracts for the session "Demographic Imaginations and Migration Futures", jointly organized by RC05 Racism, Nationalism, Indigeneity and Ethnicity and RC07 Futures Research.

This session explores how demographic projections, expectations, and anxieties are produced, circulated, contested, and transformed into political narratives about collective futures. We welcome contributions examining demographic threat narratives, imagined population and migration futures, the production and circulation of migration knowledge by states, experts, media and international institutions, demographic counter-narratives, and the intersections of demographic imaginaries with nationalism, racism and belonging. By bringing together perspectives from the sociology of migration, futures research and critical demography, this session aims to advance a global and comparative understanding of how demographic imaginations and migration futures shape contemporary societies.

This session is organized by Gert Verschraegen and Milena Belloni (University of Antwerp).
