The article discusses the incredible work that Melinda Mills has done over the last year on the COVID-19 pandemic with her team at the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science and her European Research Council Grant. According to Mills, ‘with its interdisciplinary team, the Leverhulme Centre was "uniquely positioned" to provide the demographic data and research-based advice on the real world decisions and impacts of the pandemic and the policies being introduced to contain it.' Throughout the pandemic, they were able to predict which hospitals would be at high capacity, the role of social bubbles in public opinion, how vaccine hesitance would impact vaccination rates and much more.
