Prof. dr. Clara Mulder, professor of Demography and Space at the University of Groningen and also affiliated researcher at NIDI, has been appointed as member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

Clara Mulder has made significant contributions to geography, demography and family sociology. She was one of the first scientists who – based on the life course - investigated how people make choices with respect to work, divorce, family and municipality. Mulder could, amongst other things, show on a scientific basis that children who live close to their parents, are less likely to move further away from them than children who live further away from them already.
