A Life Without Children – Patterns, Causes, Contexts across Europe

A Webinar with
Population Europe Expert Professor Dr Michaela Kreyenfeld,
Hertie School of Governance, Berlin/Germany

Wednesday, 3 February 2016
14:00 – 15:00 Brussels time

Childlessness has been increasing rapidly across Europe in recent decades. In countries like Germany, Switzerland, and Austria more than 20 % of women who are now reaching the end of their “reproductive period” will remain childless – but other European countries also report high or increasing shares of childlessness.

  • What are the determinants of a “life without children”?
  • Are these trends going to sustain?
  • Can and should governments counteract increasing childlessness?

We invite you to discuss these and other questions with Professor Michaela Kreyenfeld, Professor of Sociology at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, Germany, in an exclusive webinar for Population Europe. Prof. Kreyenfeld is one of the leading researchers in the field of fertility and family demography and co-editor of a new upcoming book called “Childlessness in Europe: Patterns, Causes and Contexts” (Springer).

Following her presentation, she will take your questions about her research, her new book, and what they reveal about a life without children in Europe.
