Decision-makers in the policy arena are discussing the three Ds which will drive our future: demographic change, decarbonization and digitalization. While the relevance of demography is widely acknowledged, the discipline itself needs to strengthen its position at the core of social sciences. More coordinated efforts are needed to describe the dynamics and the societal impact of population developments with the predictive power of multi-dimensional demographic theories, argues Wolfgang Lutz, one of the most influential scholars in European and Global demography, in his most recent publication. In this event, a select group of eminent international demographers will discuss with the author and the audience the challenges ahead.
