The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) was launched in 2001. It is an international, open-source research infrastructure devoted to the study of family dynamics, gender relations, relationships between generations and factors that influence demographic change processes. It is coordinated by the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) and directed by Professor Anne Gauthier.
The Programme was awarded a three-year grant from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation framework (H2020-INFRADEV-2016-2017, Development and long-term sustainability of new pan-European research infrastructures).
The €2 million Euro allowed the GGP to pursue two strategic aims. Firstly, it continued to advance its scientific achievements as an innovative and unique open source research infrastructure for longitudinal and cross-national study of population change processes. Secondly, the research and innovation grant enabled the consortium to initiate a transition in the GGP’s governance and financial structures and processes from a network of research institutes to a research infrastructure with a strong Central Hub.
Population Europe contributed to the project by leading the Work Package on Dissemination & Engagement activities. These included two User Conferences, a Stakeholder Event, Regional Conferences, Training for Social and Political Stakeholders, and the elaboration of discussion papers and policy briefs.
