Equal Rights Linked To More Commitment
Several studies have examined attractiveness standards and aspects of romantic relationships of gay men and lesbians. However, despite the growing popularity of digital dating markets among individuals with same-sex preferences, no studies have yet to examine their relationship intentions and values when searching for a partner online. In their current publication, Gina Potârcă, Melinda Mills and Wiebke Neberich explore two aspects of relationship preferences: long-term dating intentions (i.e., interest in starting a long-lasting relationship) and belief in monogamy.

Unintended but Positive
In a recent study, Fanny Kluge, Emilio Zagheni, Elke Loichinger and Tobias Vogt explore how different areas of life might be affected as populations grow older and smaller in Germany. The country is at a relatively advanced stage of the demographic transition, which makes it ideal to study the potential long-run implications of population ageing. The analysis mainly investigates what will happen if conditions observed today prevail.

This book, edited by Anthony Heath and Yaël Brinbaum investigates the educational careers of the second-generation groups in ten western countries - Belgium, Britain, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA. The contributing authors use large-scale national datasets and harmonised analyses of outcomes to identify patterns of success and failure in education and the mechanisms underlying such inequalities.

Making Ends Meet in Retirement
Most welfare states in Europe have taken measures to make their public pension systems more sustainable, not only by increasing the retirement age but also by placing additional responsibility on individuals to close the pension gap through personal savings and private pension plans. A cross-national study by Douglas A. Hershey, Kne Henkens and Hendrik P. van Dalen investigates who worries most about their financial future in retirement and who takes active steps to ensure an adequate standard of living when retired.

During the last two decades, most European countries experienced increased immigration and ethnic heterogeneity in their populations. Not surprisingly, marriages between natives and immigrants also increased, even in those countries where the barriers between ethnic groups have typically been high. However, European research on union dynamics is far from being complete.
