Census2021 Plans for international migration and origin-destination outputs

Census2021 Plans for international migration and origin-destination outputs

Learn about the plans for Census 2021 outputs for international migration and origin-destination data, with time to ask your questions.

On 13 July 2021, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) launched a public 12-week Census 2021 outputs consultation. In the consultation, they share their plans for the content design and release of Census 2021 outputs. You have the opportunity to tell them if their plans meet your needs. You will also be able to share any priorities or changing needs you have for Census 2021 data and analysis.

Your feedback will help them make decisions on the final design of the Census 2021 outputs for England and Wales and maximise the value of the data to produce population and social statistics in a rapidly changing world.

In this event, they focus on plans for international migration releases.

They will cover:

  • Analytical outputs: They will share their proposals for analytical outputs on international migration using Census 2021 data, including analytical considerations (e.g. definitions).
  • Detailed migration and origin-destination outputs: Or in other words, the movement of people from one place to another and the characteristics of the people who make these journeys. They will present their draft proposals for detailed migration and origin-destination Census 2021 outputs. There will be an opportunity to discuss the variables and geographies they have proposed, to ensure they meet user requirements as much as possible.
  • Addressing challenges: The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has greatly impacted the number of people entering and leaving England and Wales in the year prior to Census Day. In addition, Scotland have moved their census to March 2022. They will discuss how they will adapt their plans to address these challenges.
  • Your feedback: There will be time to ask your questions on the plans and provide your feedback, so that they can evaluate this alongside the feedback from the consultation, to ensure their outputs meet user needs.

This event will run on Microsoft Teams. Registered attendees will receive their joining instructions through the confirmation email received after registering for this event. If attendees have any questions, they can contact them at pop.info@ons.gov.uk.
